Announcing the "3rd International Field School for Asian Heritage
Greetings from Ahmedabad!
Hope you all are fine in health and spirits. This year India has been selected to
conduct the 3rd IFSAH and Heritage Initiatives of the Nehru Foundation for
Development will be organizing the 3rd International Field School for Asian
Heritage (IFSAH) in India starting 14th January 2005.
The Nehru Foundation for Development is a charitable trust dedicated to promoting
societal development by facilitating community participation and thereby enriching
the decision making process. One of the foundation's thrust areas is helping
societies realize their traditional, cultural heritage and initiating measures to
conserve it.
We had some very educative and inspiring moments during the 2nd IFSAH, and we hope
to carry forward the tradition. The 3rd IFSAH, would emphasise on innovative and
community based heritage management techniques toward urban conservation. An attempt
to share and analyze the conservation efforts by the Local Governments and citizens
initiatives in India as compared to those in other parts of Asia.
The field school1 Field school: is expected to commence on 14th Jan 2005 for a
duration of three weeks with participants from Asia with a intake capacity of 25
students, and would comprise of lectures on Urban Conservation field trips to
various culturally and architecturally significant places in North-West India. The
second section would compromise of a Workshop on Asian Heritage, in Ahmedabad.
With some rebudgeting and sponsoring, entire package of the field trip and the
Symposium is now expected to cost 650$ per head for individuals and 1000$ for
sponsored candidates. The IFSAH fees include inter city travel during field trips,
Lectures, local transportation, workshop materials, lodging and meals.The fees does
not cover international travel and other day to day expenses incurred by the
participants their three weeks program.We would like to give preference to
participants who have attended earlier IFSAH's, and pass on any concessions if any.
A tentative program is enclosed for your reference. We would be happy to furnish any
further details/clarifications that you may require. Any suggestions for a more
fruitful and meaningful outcome to the field school would be greatly appreciated.
